Evintage BLOG TAG.... I'm IT

This weeks Evintage Society's Blog Tag

SHOE IN

I'm terribly late to post this week because I've been in an out of the hospital visiting my 88 year old Granny. She has congestive heart failure and has been having a very hard time, but has an incredible will to live. I'm relieved that it looks like she will be released in a few days, so now I've got to catch up on all my work and the first task of the day is my contribution to BLOG TAG.

I've been tagged by Jersey Girl's Blog Spot

The questions are -
1) SHOW US YOUR FAVORITE PAIR OF SHOES IN YOUR INVENTORY? 2.) What is you favorite style of vintage shoe to sell?
At Empress Jade Vintage we do not sell shoes, however I do have a deep love and appreciation of vintage shoes. A great resource for vintage shoe lovers is the Bata Shoe Museum website which has some amazing examples of vintage shoes from every era. This is a fantastic resource and if you love shoes you should not miss it!

Take a look at these stunning French shoes with ornate rococo diamond and silver buckles. Circa 1760's (photo credit Bata Shoe Museum, Toronto, Hal Roth).

3) FAVORITE VINTAGE SHOE TO WEAR?
I prefer to wear shoes with platform soles because you can wear a sexy high heel in relative comfort. I love 40s ankle straps... Joan Crawford "F**K me shoes"

Here a really great pair of 40s platform peeps with ankle straps, currently on an Ebay auction from 1962comet

4) FAVORITE PAIR YOU OWN?

My newest favorite are these gold embroidered clogs with wooded platform heels. I really like the metal studs on the bottom edge and the ornate pink and green floral embroidery. I probably won't wear these, but I have used them in some of our photoshoots.

Claire Haddad - Canada's Designer to the Stars

I've finally decided to sell this magnificent Claire Haddad peignoir, so I started, as usual, to do a little research. See this auction at Empress Jade Vintage. I was disapointed to find so very little information on the net about such an important Canadian designer. Claire, who is now well into her 80s, is known for her glamorous evening wear and lingerie and designed for Hollywood's elite. Her claim to fame is convincing Elizabeth Taylor's wardrobe assistant to sneak in one of Liz's bras so she could get measurements ... Liz Taylor's measurements were such a well kept secret even her couturiers were expected to just guess. Claire took the contraband bra and fastened it to a dress form so she could design a fabulous bias cut dress for Liz, which incidentally she loved.

Claire and her husband have donated a large part of her personal collection of her designs (over 200 pieces) to the Seneca 's School of Fashion and Merchandising. Now we just need to convince Seneca to create a web archive so we all can view this important designers work.

The only Claire Haddad dress on the Seneca website is this beautiful green lounging dress; just look at the dramatic sleeves!

Welcome to the inaugural post on Empress Jade's newest vintage blog. Dedicated to vintage in all its glory. From uber glam to downright kitsch. While some girls love the ladylike styles of eras past, I love the over the top, theatrical element that vintage offers. Do you remember when Oscar night was a glam fest of Hollywood royalty decked out in their finest and most flamboyant clothes? Nowadays every starlet commands a stylist, which makes for an elegant but somewhat uniform style statement where originality is mostly absent.

So to start things off I'm participating in the Evintage Society's BLOG TAG:

This weeks Blog Tag: DRESS A MOVIE STAR

1) WHAT ITEM DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE FOR SALE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN WORN IN A MOVIE?

Check out this fabulous Emerald Green chiffon peignoir nightgown set from Intime of California, currently available at Empress Jade Vintage

2) WHICH MOVIE STAR DO YOU SEE WEARING THE ITEM & IN WHAT MOVIE?

Ok, so not a movie, how about TV? I could see this on Eva Gabor in Green Acres, preferably being worn with satin mules and dripping in diamonds!

3) WHAT MOVIE STAR QUALITIES DOES YOUR ITEM HAVE TO MAKE IT PERFECT FOR YOUR STARLET?

Intime of California was known for their Hollywood Glam styles and over the top luxury. This set is just the kind of negligee that would have been purchased at a high end boutique on Rodeo Drive back in the 60's. The lavish use of amazing lace and yards of sheer silky chiffon is just stunning. The rare jewel toned green would look particularly fine with Eva's platinum blond hair and the wide sweeping hemline and draped back is pure Hollywood.
